Shady Clubs in Golf
The PGA has instituted a new groove rule this season with clubs. Wedges with square grooves are now illegal per the PGA. Wedges with square grooves allow players to spin the ball easier in places such as the rough. There is a loophole that is being contested which allows players to use clubs made before 1990 due to a lawsuit by club maker Ping. If not made before 1990 all players must now use clubs with V-shaped grooves. Several players including Phil Mickelson have been accused of using these now illegal square grooved wedges or using the prior to 1990 loophole clubs.
